| THE BEST OF COSTA RICA !
|
| March 25 - April 3, 2007 (10 days) |
Costa Rica, Land of Fire and Forest. |
Fly above the clouds and treetops to explore three bio-diverse areas: ocean teeming with mammals and turtles, rain forests lush with birds, and spewing volcanoes. Live with incredible wildlife in their lush, natural habitat.
Come with us to Costa Rica in Central America, land of fire and forest. Anyone concerned about conserving our planet’s resources will learn much from a visit here. It is described by the Costa Rica Tourist Board as “No Artificial Ingredients”. Costa Rica is a country of incredible bio-diversity within its borders- the Caribbean to the Pacific Ocean. It has an exceptional park system over 13% of the national territory and more on private reserves, where we will visit and stay.
Costa Ricans (they call themselves Ticos, m. and Ticas, f.) consider environmentalism a national responsibility. Come with us to see why. Costa Rica is a democratic country and has no political strife. It is not a poor country, but the people still live very simply and much in the old style. You will see people using horses for transportation along side the automobile.
This trip has been very carefully planned to show you three diverse areas of this small country. Our adventure starts by flying in small aircraft from San Jose to the Pacific Ocean. There we will walk the beach at Osa Peninsula to an unique tent camp experience. Beach combing and tidal pool exploration will be found right at our doorstep. We will dine and relax in tropical style at jungle lodges designed to blend with the environment close, very close to the jungle life.
· Excursions deep into the rainforest to observe white-faced monkeys, iguanas, and butterflies, · Hundreds of bird species and the magnificent quetzal bird · Bathe in waterfalls and hot springs. · Kayak, if you wish, or horseback ride.
An exciting, not to be missed, experience is to be lifted over 100 feet to a tree platform to observe wildlife above the tree canopy in Corcovado Tent Camp.
The cloud forest of Monteverde is the most famous wildlife spot in Costa Rica. There are at least 400 bird species here, including the three-wattled bellbird -- not easily seen but frequently heard, over 100 species of mammals and an estimated 2,500 species of plants. Among the dense vegetation in the misty forest you will find many wild relatives of familiar tropical houseplants including philodendrons, ficus trees, bromeliads and ferns. Orchids abound with over 300 species occurring here. A visit to a hummingbird gallery, where we will see up to nine species of hummingbirds.
“Fire” in Costa Rica comes from the hot red lava running down the sides of Arenal volcano, one of the most active volcanoes in the world. Arenal’s big blast in 1968 was felt as far away as Colorado. Our lodgings at the Arenal Observatory Lodge, located at the base of the Arenal Volcano, offers remarkable views of this wondrous site. · Cerro Chato, Arenal Volcano’s little-big brother is neither as high, nor as active as its younger sibling, but it does provide a wonderful destination for a day hike.
Stroll through village centers to shop and dine on some local cuisine and observe the Ticos and Ticas who are friendly, happy and always smiling. Come with us to Costa Rica.
