ENJOY A WALK THROUGH PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND |
Providence is the state capital of Rhode Island, and one of New England's largest cities. Located on Narragansett Bay, Providence is an extremely old city... founded in 1636 by Roger Williams. Our walk will begin at the University Heights Shopping Center. From there we will walk to Benefit Street. Known as the "mile of history" this is a cobbled stone street lined with early Federal houses dating from the 19th century. The street serves as a reminder of Rhode Island's wealthy past that was a result of trades of slaves, rum and molasses during Colonial times. We will continue past the canal where the Providence Waterfire events are held. Strolling by the gondolas, we continue on to Brown University, and the Rhode Island School of Design,(RISD), where we plan to arrive on Wickenden Street for lunch. This eclectic street, is alive with creative energy, both inside and out. There are many wonderful restaurants, coffee shops and galleries to explore. There we will break up for shopping and lunch. We will have a meeting time when to meet back so we can resume our walk and then on to Thayer Street. We will end about 3ish.
MEETING TIME: 10:00 AM
MEETING PLACE: Parking lot near McDonald's on North Main Street in the University Heights Shopping Center.
DIRECTIONS:
From the South: Route 95 North to Exit 24, Branch Avenue. Bear right, stay in the right hand lane onto North Main Street. Get into the left hand lane. Go to the second set of lights and take a left. You will see the McDonalds at University Heights Shopping Center. Park along the rail near McDonald's.
From the North: Take Route 95 South to Exit 24, Branch Avenue. Take a left at teh end of the exit. You will be going over Route 95. There will be a Kentucky Fried Chicken ahead of you and a Fire Station on the right. Bear right, stay in the right hand lane and take a right at the lights onto North Main Street. Get into the left hand lane. Go to the second set of lights and take a left. You will see the McDonalds at University Heights Shopping Center. Park along the rail near McDonald's.

| Cancellation Policy: | Refunds of deposits or payments for Day Trips will be given, less a 10% total cost of trip cancellation fee, provided that cancellation is received at least 24 hours prior to the event date. After that time any monies paid are forfeited. |
